Experience, Confidence, Network for Peace

"Primary Course" is a course to be aimed at those who have the strong will to develop careers in the field of peacebuilding. The course will develop human resources who will work for peacebuilding at international organizations and other related organizations. The course consists of approximately 6 weeks of the Coursework in Japan to improve practical expertise and approximately 12 months of the Overseas Attachment as UNV volunteers(max. 12 months for all Japanese PAs/ max. 6 months for few highly qualified non-Japanese PAs). Further, Japanese participants will receive career development support from the beginning of the Coursework in Japan.


[Privileges of the Participants to the Primary Course]
Program Associates, by participating in the Primary Course of the Program, will be privileged for the following certification: The certification contains a “Certificate-of-Training in Peace Support Operations,” which is bestowed by the Peace Operations Training Institute, U.S. (POTI).
This Institute requires PAs to study in the Coursework designated and provided by those institutes where the teachings on peace are provided.
In addition to the above, PAs now receive the benefit of distance learning in POTI. That is to say, by attending one of two courses of this Program, PAs will be offered a certerficate to prove meeting the requirement for attending the course lectures given at institutions offering courses related to activities for peace which constitute a prerequisite in addition to such courses as PAs attend through distance learning in order to obtain the “Certificate-of-Training in United Nations Peace Support Operations.”

(1)HPC provides assistance to both those currently in the Program as well as Program graduates through its unique online internet roster system for advanced career development. The system provides a variety of services, including providing job information relating to vacant posts in the United Nations, NGOs, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan as well as a useful platform for interaction and information exchange among registrants. Also, the system offers professional assistance tailored to meet individual needs, including mentoring services with which associates can have direct, individual consultations with those practitioners and HR professionals of international organizations registered as mentors in the system.

(2)HPC provides unique assistance by realizing encountered opportunities for expanding networks with professionals and graduates in addition to the regular Courseworks.

(3)Other assistance: HPC distributes booklets that introduce accumulated professional knowledge, know-how and reports/stories by people with experience.
